About

Emma Hammond is an imaginative musician and educator based in Haddonfield, New Jersey. She is an advocate for new music by living composers and a dedicated teacher to students of all ages. She is the founder of the Hammond Flute Studio in Haddonfield, NJ and is on staff at the New Jersey School of Music in Medford, NJ. She is a teaching artist for the Symphony in C Youth Orchestra and the Catholic Partnership Schools program in Camden, NJ. She loves working with students of all ages to help them discover a strong sense of self through flute playing.

As a soloist, Emma was praised for having a "sensitive, thoughtful, and moving approach" with the "abundant technique of a virtuoso" after her performance of Charles Griffes' Poem for flute and orchestra with the Appalachian Symphony Orchestra in 2019. She has played in masterclasses for flutists Jasmine Choi, Bart Feller, Albert Brouwer, Robert Vroegindeweij, Bonita Boyd, Göran Marcusson, Stephen Preston, and Erika Boysen. Emma has also performed with the Johnson City Symphony and the Mostly Modern Festival Orchestra.

Emma is currently pursuing a DMA at Rutgers University under the instruction of Bart Feller. â€‹â€‹She earned her Master’s degree in flute performance at the University of Maryland in College Park, MD in 2021, where she studied with Sarah Frisof, Aaron Goldman, and Leah Arsenault Barrick. Emma completed her Bachelor of Music in flute performance (summa cum laude) at Appalachian State University in 2019, where she studied with Nancy Schneeloch-Bingham. She was also one of the 10 students in her class awarded the Chancellor's Scholarship, a full-tuition academic merit scholarship. Emma is originally from Morganton, North Carolina, and has also studied with Lissie Shanahan. â€‹
